Forrest Albano (The Orchestra Now) was also a finalist. I’ve heard both of the acting principals in Atlanta, Mike and Mark, were anticipating on taking the audition. They both were going to be auto-advanced to finals, but something happened and one of them ended up on the committee.
Apparently the proctor seemed annoyed communicating to the candidates, especially compared to his tone in the previous rounds, so I’m curious if this audition ever had a chance at having a winner or not. Can anyone confirm any behind the scenes dilemmas regarding the two acting principals and/or the committee?
This is what I've been hearing from other people. I've heard that this has been the case with musicians on the committee bickering with each other (this seems to have been the case for the past countless principal trombone auditions). I absolutely believe that every audition that is held is always with the intention of hiring someone, but it sounds like there is disagreement on the direction they want to take the symphony.
Current ASO trumpeter Mike Tiscione (tenured associate principal, acting principal), as well as Sam Huss (principal in Richmond), James Vaughen (asst principal in Detroit & Grant Park), Alec Blazek (2nd in Nashville), and Forrest Albano (The Orchestra Now)
I heard it was a no hire.
