Heard that Nina DeCesare won a trial for this position. She joined the BSO section in 2020. I’m not sure if other trials were awarded but I have been told that Baltimore’s CBA mandates trials before positions are awarded. I’m not aware of any other orchestra in which this is the case, very interesting approach.

I’m told this audition process has unfortunately ended in a no-hire.
It is not true that Baltimore's CBA mandates trials before hiring. But in this case, two trials were awarded, one to Nina, the other to Caleb Quillen.
San Francisco’s CBA also mandates a trial week.
Very helpful! Thanks for the needed clarification. Interesting that all of these positions still go to trials.
Baltimore Symphony Orchestra CBA, 2020-2025, 15.5.C.7 — “Having candidates play at minimum a week in the orchestra is a mandatory part of the audition process.” Above this in “6” it outlines that a single service with the orchestra could be used as a ”play-off,” but it seems that section 7 stands alone and mandates a week with the orchestra before hiring a candidate.
