3 trials were offered following the Nov audition. 2 trials were completed, and one candidate withdrew (won another position). The position was offered to a candidate but it was declined so the audition will be held again in September.
Anyone have a sense for why the winner would go thru the trouble of auditioning and playing a trial, only to decline an offer of a full-time principal position? Did they also win a different job?
It is probably not a common thing to see, though in most cases it is usually because they have won another position. There could be a variety of other reasons, depending on the situation a candidate is coming from, like if the person is currently holding another position. Not necessarily specific to this situation but just some possibile reasons: Maybe a winning candidate could not negotiate the salary they had hoped and it was a deal-breaker for them, or possibly a winning candidate did not end up liking the city, or the orchestra etc.. after completing their trial.
Yesterday was the scheduled date for the retry on this audition - any news?
