Heard Maestro Muti didn’t like any of them but offered a trial to Mark Almond from SFS. His trial should be coming up in the next few weeks. His playing is not CSO style at all, won’t be surprised if he doesn’t get hired or tenured. He’s better in SFS
Thanks for the info - just wondering if it’s wise or necessary to comment on someone’s job prospects? Seems like it might be a little bit armchair quarterback for this type of forum, but I’m fairly new so maybe I’m wrong. Thanks again for your contribution and information!
Let us all take a moment to review our guidelines. This comment does not lift other members up. Thank you to those of you who reported it.-There have been many cases of players who don't "fit the style" of an orchestra and still win jobs there. Sometimes orchestras are looking for something new. Many sections want to evolve to a new sound or explore a new personality.-Best of luck to all who are auditioning, including Mr. Almond if he is indeed on trial there.
Mark Almond passed his trial and has been appointed principal horn https://cso.org/experience/article/15145/the-chicago-symphony-welcomes-six-members-inc
Sorry the random question, why is Chicago having a Prinicpal horn audition? what happend to David Cooper?
They held a pre FINAL where one of the invited candidates was ruled out.
Nobody advanced to FINALS.
4 people were pre invited to audition on May 22.

Any updates?
From what I’ve heard DC wasn’t in the finals
Bump
I believe CSO allows up to five autos per audition.
I’m told Mark Almond was auto to finals. He is currently Associate Principal in San Francisco.
