Cleveland Timpani

Heard this one was a no-hire today. 4 semifinalists, all hold positions with major US orchestras, and fun fact, 2 of them studied at CIM. None advanced to finals.

This follows the Assistant Timpani audition in November, which also ended in a no-hire. Womp womp.

A number of timpanists have played in Cleveland over the past few months. They include Colin Hartnett, Zubin Hathi, Charles Renneker, Jim Benoit, Peter Nichols (pic 2 above), Feza Zweifel, James Wyman, and Aaron McDonald.

It will be interesting to see how the rest of the season plays out. Pure speculation, but given that the music director hasn’t been able to be there at all since the end of the tour, I would doubt if much headway has been made in determining who will end up filling the vacancy. Perhaps there will continue to be a rotation of players in the spring.
