Specifically, why are they unable to hire an associate principal flute? The position has been vacant for so long (10 years I think) and there have been so many auditions. Not a good look. Is no one good enough, really? Or is it the committee/MD’a fault?

This is certainly the question on everyone’s minds. The position became vacant in 2014, and they’ve passed on a lot of great players over the years…I definitely know players who just aren’t interested in auditioning for them anymore after 10 years of no-hires. Very curious about what’s going on with their hiring process!
They appointed at the audition before this latest one, but decided not to award the winner tenure.
